Paleocinema Podcast 9 - Rififi, Topkapi, Prizefights and Time Machines
In this podcast I look at Jules Dassin's two classic crime caper movies, Rififi and Topkapi - the sources from which all subsequent caper movies evolved. In the film noir segment I talk about Robert Wise's 1949 boxing film, The Set-Up, based (believe it or not) on a 1929 poem by Joseph Moncure March and finally, the third of my alternative Magnificent Seven action film stars of the 1960s - Australian actor Rod Taylor.

Another great podcast. Worth the wait. I've still never caught up with the Dassin movies but always wanted to; now perhaps this will be an added incentive to get them. And the choice of Rod Taylor as one of your Magnificent 7 is inspired.
P.S. You might be interested to know that here in the States THE THIEF OF BAGDAD has been out of print but will be released on DVD in May!
Hi cerpts
Let me know what you think of Rififi and Topkapi when you do see them. I'd be interested on your input.
Yeah, the Rod Taylor choice was a right brain kind of insight. I was trying to find a way to bring in some local content (even expatriate) and he seemed a good choice. I also like the fact that he's also an artist and from the interviews I've seen has that wonderful self-depreciatory humour that is a part of the Australian character.
Get The Thief of Bagdad too, it's cinema magic.
