For Paleo-Cinema 114, I look at two movies directed by Joseph Losey. In the 1960 prison film The Criminal, Stanley Baker goes up against the system. In the 1966 Eurospy spoof Modesty Blaise, the style is much greater than the substance, and Dirk Bogarde steals the show.

Terry, thought you'd be interested to hear that BBC Radio 4 brought back Modesty Blaise last December!

I saw that and found a torrent of it to download, Timothy. As yet, haven't watched it because I am starting to watch this....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_Film:_An_Odyssey.
I may be a while.
Okay, Terry - just more of an FYI given you said on the show that you were a big fan of the character.
I went ahead and got Losey's MODESTY BLAISE on Netflix - I'd never seen it before because, well, I thought it was Just Another Tongue-in-Cheek Sixties Eurospy film, and Joseph Losey seemed like a bad fit directing one of those to me.
Who would be a good modern film/television version of Modesty and Willie, do you think?

Daniel Craig as Willie Garvin, Angelina as Modesty Blaise, if they aren't too old. If so, maybe Melanie Laurent from Inglourious Basterds
