I look at Avatar, why Americans don't do good tough guy actors any more, talk about a documentary on Jacques Tati and look at Vincente Minnelli's "Two Weeks In Another Town" while tooling around the city on the Yarra in a Toyota Corolla. This time, we’re looking at one of the iconic actors of the 1960s and 1970s, Warren Mercer Oates 1928-1982. Movies like Two Lane Blacktop, Race With The Devil, Dillinger, The Wild Bunch, Cockfighter, 92 In The Shade and most of all Bring Me The Head Of Alfredo Garcia would have been less than they were without Warren Oates, the sad, worldly, mostly on the wrong side of the law everyman with a cheeky grin and a lot behind the eyes.
